Confirmation - What a Night
|
16th September, the service of Confirmation held in our church. The number of people in the church was totally amazing. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to fill the church like this at our Sunday services. There were around 19 candidates to confirm their faith and one to re-affirm. All the churches involved brought along a good supporting group and the atmosphere was electric. Representatives from Emmanuel, Holy Trinity, Furzebank, St. Annes and St. Stephens congregated with great excitement. It is always so uplifting to be amongst other Christians in a big event.
The Right Reverend Clive Gregory our Wolverhampton Bishop conducted the proceedings and preached the sermon. He spoke of the new life that the confirmands were entering and that it was as a re-birth, casting off the old ways and thinking and behaving with Jesus at there side. They would never be the same people again. What a wonderful thought. It was good for us ‘old hands’ to hear these encouraging words which reminded us of our promises in previous years.
I spoke with many of the newly born after the service. They all spoke of the feeling of warmth and emotion they felt when the Bishop touched them, surely this was the receiving of the Holy Spirit into their lives.
Beautiful hymns with Richard playing them with gusto, and the music group from Furzebank further lighting up the evening. It could not have been better.
We were so lucky to have the opportunity to host this great celebration. Well done everyone. A lot of work went into everything and it showed. The buffet afterwards was as expected, tasty and plentiful.
To all the candidates, congratulations, may you feel the touch of warmth and love for the rest of your lives.
Congratulations to Sylvia and Paul Walker, Mia Wolverson-Allen, Matthew Dawson, Lauren and Sam Webb. Our own new communicants.
