Classics to Classical Concert
A group of very talented and versatile people entertained a packed church to music and gymnastic dance routines. Nothing unusual about that you may think, but these people were all under the age of sixteen, with the youngest only eleven years old.

We were delighted by the performances of everyone involved. Our church organist Richard Dawson presented the programme with himself playing the organ and piano. His brother Matthew played cornet and trumpet, he is also an accomplished Jazz musician. Joseph Cryan and Thomas Hickman both entertained us on piano. Ellen Doody played recorder, saxophone and clarinet, a tribute to her commitment to her music. We had duets from Ella Perry and Jessica Jones on flutes. WOW! The gymnasts were Mia Wolverson and twins Mary & Nicole McCarthy. Such grace and agility displayed by these young girls.

The music played, covered classical and popular items. With the finale bringing us all to our feet, waving flags and clapping to the ‘Last Night of the Proms’ selection. The whole evening was wonderful, a professional concert organised and ably presented by all the artistes.

It is obvious that this standard of performance does not occur overnight but is the result of many, many years of study and hard work. It is evident that the parents of the children have encouraged and financed them throughout. Our thanks to them for allowing us to witness the tremendous dedication of all concerned.

To all the performers. You gave us all a wonderful evening, left us with a lump in our throats, and restored our faith in teenagers who are so often portrayed as trouble makers.

You all deserve to achieve your ambitions in the music world. THANK YOU once again.

I am also very happy to advise that the concert raised over £400.00 which has been donated to the Organ Restoration Fund.
