This service took place on July 1st. None of us quite knew how many pets would bring their owners, or what would occur during the service.
To say that we were surprised by the response is an understatement. We were THRILLED. The church was full of Dogs, Cats, Hamsters, Guinea Pigs, Rats and of course their owners. What a lovely selection of animals and what original names they had. The owners were obviously proud of their pets and rightly so. They were all beautiful and well behaved.
Some of the dogs might be offered a place in our choir, they certainly made themselves heard, it was great! The smaller animals in boxes and cages did their normal thing and just munched away or slept. Whatever they did it was wonderful to see them.
The opportunity to have a blessing for the animals and to light candles for absent pets was appreciated by everyone. The comments after the service showed that all our visitors had enjoyed the service and were pleased to give thanks for their pets.
God gave us our animals to treasure and to give us happiness and companionship. Way back in the days of Noah, God provided shelter and safety for all the animals. Should we not do the same now.
